I have an old Palm device (M515) that I'm trying to Hotsync via USB on a Windows 7 Pro machine. From what I've been able to determine, the only way to do this is to run an old version of Palm Desktop (4.1.4) in a virtual XP machine.
I've downloaded and installed XP Mode and installed Palm Desktop 4.1.4. I can successfully run a Hotsync but ... in order to get it to work, I have to start the operation on the Palm device and then manually click the "Attach" item from the USB drop down menu on the virtual machine. Once I "attach," the virtual XP machine recognizes the USB connection and the Hotsync proceeds.
Ideally, I'd like to run the Hotsync operation unattended, the way I have done on my old XP box. I leave the Palm physically connected and then it "wakes up" in the middle of the night and starts its Hotsync operation.
Is there any way I can automate clicking the "attach" button?
As near as I can tell, I can't click it while the Palm is asleep, because at that point, the virtual machine doesn't detect any USB device to attach. I know the time that the Palm is due to wake up. Can I schedule an action to click the "attach" button at, say, one minute after the Palm has started its attempt to Hotsync (getting the timing right might be difficult, so if someone knows of a method to automatically detect the presence of a USB device and use that to trigger the "attach" command, I'm all ears)?
