Programs hanging if mouse is not moved/clicked

Hi.

When I use Visual Studio 2003 in XP-mode on my Win7 computer, I experience some odd behavior: If I try to compile a C++ program, the compilation seems to stop and will only continue if I move the mousepointer over the VS2003 window repeatedly. As soon as I stop moving the mouse, the compilation stops.
Anyone have a suggestion on what this might be?


Recently I got a similar behavior in one other program: After downloading/installing the latest iTunes (9.02), one of the demonstration videos (synching with iPhone) would not show the pictures unless i moved/clicked the mouse in that window. The sound was working as normal.
