Need to run program in XP mode that runs over the network

Hi we have an application that over the network. The windows XP client PCs have this type of shortcut 

\\UNC PATH\Hidden directory$\application name.EXE parameter

This application doesn't run in windows 7, so I have replicated the shortcut in Windows 7 XP mode under the folder  %allusersprofile%/Desktop , however it doesn't appear to publish this Icon on the Windows 7 host desktop

The option to auto publish has been switched on.

I have restarted XP mode

I have not restarted the Windows 7 host

Please what I should be doing.
